Overview of the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and autonomous Senior Product Owner to own the product strategy, roadmap, and delivery for our Sportsbook back-end platform. You will be the primary product authority for your domain - defining the vision, setting priorities, and driving outcomes across engineering, operations, and business stakeholders. This is not a supporting role; you will lead independently, make high-impact decisions, and be accountable for measurable results.
You will work closely with development teams, business stakeholders, data analysts, and external partners to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-quality sportsbook solutions. Deep familiarity with back-end systems and the gambling industry is expected, not optional.
What You'll Do:
-
Own the product roadmap for the Sportsbook back-end domain end-to-end - from discovery through delivery and post-launch optimisation - with full accountability for outcomes and KPIs.
-
Define and drive product vision for your domain , aligning engineering teams, business stakeholders, and leadership around a clear and compelling direction.
-
Lead product discovery independently , including hypothesis generation, requirements gathering, scoping, and solution design in collaboration with engineering, data, and design teams.
-
Own and maintain a healthy, prioritised backlog , making autonomous prioritisation decisions based on business value, technical feasibility, regulatory requirements, and strategic goals.
-
Author high-quality product specifications - detailed user stories with clear acceptance criteria, edge case handling, and visual aids (wireframes, flowcharts, sequence diagrams) - ensuring development teams have everything they need to deliver.
-
Drive cross-functional alignment across engineering, operations, compliance and external partners, acting as the single point of accountability for your product area.
-
Define and track success metrics for all initiatives, owning the measurement framework and iterating based on data and live product performance.
-
Oversee UAT and release readiness , setting quality standards and ensuring new features meet functional, regulatory, and performance expectations before launch.
-
Represent the product in stakeholder forums , including leadership reviews, sprint demos, and external partner discussions, communicating progress, risks, and decisions with confidence.
-
Maintain product documentation and internal wikis to a high standard, ensuring they reflect the current state of the platform and are accessible to all relevant teams.
-
Continuously assess the live product , proactively identifying gaps, degradations, and improvement opportunities - and driving resolution without waiting to be asked.
-
Mentor and support junior Product Owners , sharing domain knowledge, reviewing their output, and raising the overall quality of product practice within the team.
What You'll Bring:
Must
-
5+ years of Product Owner or Product Manager experience , with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity owning a product domain independently.
-
Proven track record of owning a product roadmap and delivering measurable business outcomes - not just managing a backlog, but driving strategy and results.
-
Deep expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe), including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and cross-team dependency management in fast-paced environments.
-
Strong stakeholder management skills , including experience influencing senior leadership, aligning cross-functional teams, and navigating competing priorities.
-
Data-driven decision-making , with experience defining KPIs, analysing product metrics, and using data to inform prioritisation and iteration.
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills , with the ability to translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable product decisions.
Desirable but Not Required
-
Strong understanding of back-end systems architecture, distributed microservices, databases, and API-driven ecosystems, with the ability to translate technical concepts into product decisions and stakeholder value.
-
Familiarity with back-end systems in sports betting , including bet placement/settlement, real-time data processing, risk management, regulatory compliance and external integrations.
-
A personal passion for sports or sports betting can be an added advantage , as it helps understand user needs and industry trends.
