Are you eager to get the inside scoop on what it’s like to work at PokerStars? Then look no further!
We recently caught up with Rebecca Peterson, Poker Graphics Manager, who has been at PokerStars for seven years and is based in our Toronto office. From shuffling up and dealing amazing player experiences, to memorable moments with colleagues, we enjoyed hearing more from Rebecca and hope you do too!
Hi Rebecca! Please could you tell us a bit about your role and responsibilities at PokerStars?
I am Poker Graphics Manager at PokerStars and I lead an amazing team of skilled designers and graphic artists who design, animate, and implement the visual elements players see and interact with on desktop and mobile clients. The team works daily with developers of all kinds, to bring amazing player experiences to life. In short, I’m responsible for empowering my team to provide the best gaming platform for our players, as well as helping them on their career and learning journeys.
What do you enjoy most about working at PokerStars?
I enjoy the people the most! Our people make up an incredible team, willing to help each other and are always highly motivated to deliver a great poker experience. I love our shared passion for this industry, but most of all, I love casual conversations over coffee about our shared experiences or diverse backgrounds.
Can you share a memorable experience during your time at PokerStars?
Some of my best memories are of our get togethers, from team building events to social events in the calendar. There’s something to be said about stepping away from the ‘work’ and meeting people in a casual setting, where every time, you get to learn something new about them. I love getting to know the ‘shoes’ others walk in.
How would you describe the culture at PokerStars?
Our company is full of dedicated passionate people, who are respectful of each other. We love to work, but we also know how to let loose and relax with our coworkers, whether at an event or just over a coffee in the office.
Can you tell us a bit about a successful project or collaboration you’ve been involved in?
Last year PokerStars delivered the Mystery Bounty tournament feature to players. Mystery Bounties are an exciting feature of the PokerStars platform, adding another element of surprise and fun for players. There were a lot of moving parts, and the project required a great deal of collaboration with different technology squads. The graphics team delivered numerous interactive elements required to make the new feature a big success, including new UI elements, a new table theme, winning animations, bounties and more. Over 16,000 entrants took part in the first-ever Mystery Bounty tournament, making it one of the biggest Sunday Millions in recent history, and it easily surpassed its $1 million guarantee, amassing a prize pool of $1.6 million!
What opportunities for growth and development have you experienced at PokerStars?
I started at PokerStars seven years ago as a contract designer, leading to permanent full time work. I’ve had amazing support from both my previous manager and current manager as well as leaders from across the business, to grow and develop my career. Flutter offers a variety of development programs for colleagues that help women reach new heights in their personal and professional lives.
Are there any unique events or initiatives at PokerStars that you find particularly inspiring or enjoyable?
I think the Flutter Female Mentorship Program is fantastic at supporting women in technology. I know personally of several women in PokerStars who are enrolled as mentors and/or mentees and find great value in the program, aiding with self-development and achieving goals.
Our in-office events are really fun and generate opportunities for people in different PokerStars verticals to meet, learn, and build personal connections.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career at PokerStars?
Everyone is friendly and willing to help, don’t ever think you have to learn the ropes on your own without support or guidance. Our teams of experienced colleagues are amazing!
And finally, we’d love to know what you get up to in your spare time!
I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, doing activities such as hiking, back country camping, birding, travelling – and all things nature related! I also enjoy running and horseback riding, which provide fantastic mental and physical health benefits.

Thank you, Rebecca, for giving us a great insight into life at PokerStars!
